Isaiah 51:7-8;12-13
7 “Listen to me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear not the reproach of man, nor be dismayed at their revilings. 8 For the moth will eat them up like a garment, and the worm will eat them like wool, but my righteousness will be forever, and my salvation to all generations.”… 12 “I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass, 13 and have forgotten the Lord, your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, and you fear continually all the day because of the wrath of the oppressor, when he sets himself to destroy? And where is the wrath of the oppressor?
Isaiah encourages those who know God’s law to “fear not the reproach of man, nor be dismayed at their revilings”, for they are like grass that withers while God is the One who created the heavens and the earth! For too long the Church has fallen into the trap of fearing man rather than God, therefore not speaking up against sin, in order that we might avoid “the reproach of man”. We use the excuse that we are sharing the Gospel in an attempt to justify our silence; we try to appease the world regarding the practices that God has clearly stated that He hates.
The Church will be judged by God not only by what we say but also by what we do not say. In a time when God’s Name and God’s Truth is being defiled especially where our children are concerned, it is time for the Church not only to protect and teach their own children but also to speak boldly to the world the truth of the Gospel, of God’s justice, God’s wrath, and, at the same time, His great love!
A common concern seems to emerge now wherever Christians gather: The task of truth -telling is stranger than it used to be. I this age, telling the truth is tough business and not for the fainthearted.
~He is Not Silent by Dr. Albert Mohler
May those “who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law” speak out for God because God is the One who is to be feared rather than man.
Prayer: Dear Lord, in this secular age, please give your church courage not to fear man but God, so the truth can be heard! In Jesus name, Amen!
