And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors.

Genesis 45:5-8

When Joseph finally revealed himself to his brothers, his brothers were dismayed and fearful that Joseph would take revenge upon them. But instead of doing this, Joseph took care of the whole family. The key was that Joseph saw everything from God’s perspective. God had been behind everything; it was God who had sent Joseph to Egypt in order to preserve life. Genesis 5:20 states it directly: “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”

Yes, everything that has happened in our lives, even things that were evil in themselves, God can still turn for good – not only for us but also for others. Let us wear “a new pair of glasses” to see everything from God’s view. Then we will see that God is the Director who plans everything for GOOD for those who love God. Therefore we can trust God in all circumstances and ourselves do what is right and good.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to trust You in all circumstances, including during difficult times, and to do good to others so Your good purpose can be fulfilled. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
