14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Romans 10:14-15

How can people be saved? The answer is that it requires someone to “run to share the good news”. And why are the feet of those who preach the good news described as being beautiful? R C Sproul in his book Chosen by God give us the explanation:

In the ancient world, news of battles and other crucial events was carried by runners… Lookouts were posted to watch for the approaching messengers. Those bearing bad news approached with heavy feet. Those runners bearing good news approached swiftly, with feet sprinting through the dust. For the watchmen the sight of a runner approaching rapidly in the distance with his feet skimming over the mountain was a gorgeous vision to behold.

The key is that someone needs to be sent to share the good news. Are we willing to say to the Lord, “Hear am I, send me”? May we gather with eager anticipation as for a marathon, our feet running together to share the good news – it will be a beautiful scene to watch…because: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help us run to share the good news instead of running for our own gain. Stir up your church together to run a Gospel Marathon! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
