My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.
Psalm 45:1
The arts are God’s unique gift for mankind, an outward expression of our hearts. As Chuck Colson said, “The way we define art has the power to shape our culture. The music we listen to, the images we plant in our minds, the stories we tell—all have enormous power over the kind of people we are. They both express and shape our beliefs and values.” Unfortunately, the arts are also an uncharted territory for the modern day church, and therefore it is not uncommon that the music, lyrics, and videos that are selected do not inspire the awe and love of the Lord in our young people.
“Every Christian family can make the home a place where art and culture are nurtured. When children are surrounded by the best in music, art, and literature, they grow up learning to appreciate the best.”
Chuck Colson
We desperately need to cultivate good art in our next generation so their hearts will “overflow with a pleasing theme and address their verses to the king, so their tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe!”
