Nehemiah 6:9 For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.” But now, O God, strengthen my hands… 15 So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days.16 And when all our enemies heard of it, all the nations around us were afraid and fell greatly in their own esteem, for they perceived that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God.

Within 52 days of repairing and rebuilding the wall, Nehemiah faced opposition and challenges, one after another, from within and from without. The intention of the enemies was to cause the hands of God’s people to drop from their work. Are you facing a similar situation? Your problems, from within and without, keep coming, making you afraid and wanting to give up the work that God has put in your heart. Nehemiah is the hero for us to follow today! Each time when facing trouble he cried out to God; instead of dropping the work, he asked God to “strengthen his hands”. Because of his continued focus on the task God had called him to do, he was not distracted by the opposition and thus was able to finish the wall in a short 52 days! At the end, “all the nations around [God’s people] were afraid” and recognized God’s hand was upon Nehemiah.
May God strengthen our hands regarding the work He has put in our hearts and remove our fears! At the end, people will be filled with the fear of the Lord because they recognize it is God who has done the work, not us.
