Leviticus 26:40 “But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers in their treachery that they committed against me, and also in walking contrary to me, 41 so that I walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies—if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and they make amends for their iniquity, 42 then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.

God brought the Israelites out of Egypt so that they would be able to settle in the Promised Land. But the condition was for them to follow God, to walk according to His rules and statues. If the Israelites followed God’s rules, they would enjoy abundant blessings. But if they disobeyed God’s rules, there would be a curse upon their land. What stands out is that God applied discipline in five stages. “But if in spite of this” demonstrates the patience of God in dealing with the Israelites. In spite of their long history of rebelliousness, “… if they confess[ed] their iniquity ..”, God would still remember His covenant with Abraham and restore their land. The God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament, full of mercy, kindness, and patience! Now we are seeing the discipline of God upon America because of our nation’s disobedience. “But if they confess their iniquity,…if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and they make amends for their iniquity,” (26:40-41).God can still restore the Sabbaths.
God states what the result of our actions will be: blessings from obedience and curses from disobedience. Yet there is a qualification following the word “but”. Our God of mercy and love prepares a way for the prodigal sons to return home. No matter how far away from home we are, there is always a way back home; in fact, God is always there, waiting for us to return home!
