1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
Life is like a race, and everyone is running to try to receive a prize at the end. Many people race to be successful in the world. But without God “they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.” Too often we Christians have no spiritual goal. We say to God, “Please save your reward for others; I am OK with just being an ‘ordinary’ Christian.” But Paul charges us to run that we may obtain an imperishable prize, not to just “walk in leisure”. To be an athlete is to “discipline [your] body and keep it under control.” There are no “leisurely walking” Christians in the Bible. So let us run with a God-given goal in order to receive our prize from God!
