Acts 16:25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened.
Paul and Silas followed the famous “Macedonian Call” to preach the gospel in Philipi, but they ended up being beaten and put into jail. They had all the reason to be discouraged and to complain to God as they sat in their jail cell, but instead they chose to pray and to sing hymns to God at midnight. This must have been the most unexpected and most beautiful sound ever heard in that jail. The result of that prayer and singing shook the foundations of the prison and opened all the prisons doors. As we face a time of darkness, the midnight of our country, knowing persecution is on the way and is already happening, it is not the time for us to lose heart but to pray and sing songs of praise to God! Not only will the world hear and listen, but most importantly God will hear and listen, and He will shake the foundations of darkness!
