30 所 以 主 耶 和 華 說 ： 以 色 列 家 啊 ， 我 必 按 你 們 各 人 所 行 的 審 判 你 們 。 你 們 當 回 頭 離 開 所 犯 的 一 切 罪 過 。 這 樣 ， 罪 孽 必 不 使 你 們 敗 亡 。31 你 們 要 將 所 犯 的 一 切 罪 過 盡 行 拋 棄 ， 自 做 一 個 新 心 和 新 靈 。 以 色 列 家 啊 ， 你 們 何 必 死 亡 呢 ？32 主 耶 和 華 說 ： 我 不 喜 悅 那 死 人 之 死 ， 所 以 你 們 當 回 頭 而 存 活 。
Ezekiel 18:30 “Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin.31 Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.”

When the Israelites were facing attack from the Babylonians, they placed the blame for their situation on their parents’ wrongdoings and did not consider their own. So God sent Ezekiel to correct them: “I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways.” We likewise live in a time in which few take responsibility for their wrongdoings. We blame our difficulties on our upbringings (i.e., our parents), our environment, our government, everyone else but ourselves. On the other hand, our culture also makes us feel guilty for our ancestors’ racial sins . The solution is for us to go back to God, and the way back to Him is first to recognize that we ourselves have not done what is right. We have been heading in the wrong direction, walking upon a path which leads to death. Secondly, we must “cast away … all the transgressions that [we] have committed, and make [ourselves] a new heart and a new spirit” which are accomplished by faith in the work of Jesus on the cross! Let us cease being a victim and instead turn to God so we can become a victor!
