Isaiah 6:And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

When Isaiah encountered the Holy God, he recognized his sinfulness. God forgave and cleansed him, but the story did not end there. Isaiah also heard a call from God: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” There is not much detailed information but only an asking for Isaiah’s availability and willingness. Isaiah answered with stunningly short and quick words, “Here I am! Send me”. He did not ask God where the destination was or what the task was, and he did not hesitate. Isaiah’s reply, “Here am I” (in Hebrew, Hineni), shows the readiness and enthusiasm of a soldier ready to be sent into the battlefield wherever it is and whatever the cost. The chaos of the world we are living in now is God’s wake up call for Christians to tell us that we can no longer be “normal” or live “normal” lives. To be sent we need to be available first. Many are busy regarding their own businesses, their own families, or even their own churches. But “who will go for [God]?” May we be like Isaiah and answer God, “Hineni, send me.”
