Ecclesiastes 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
The world has lied to our youth, leading them to waste these critical years of their lives, to “walk in the ways of [their] heart[s] and the sight of [their] eyes” without knowing “that for all these things God will bring [them] into judgment.” The myth that “thirty is the new twenty” has misled our young men and women to waste their “defining decade”. “Your twenties matter. Eighty percent of life’s most defining moments take place by age thirty-five.” (The Defining Decade by Meg Jay, PhD) The decisions made in our twenties regarding marriage and career will define the rest of our lives. Youth is a time not to be wasted but rather to be the launch pad into the years of our adult lives. Our lives and our time on earth are a precious gift of God; one day we will be held accountable before God for how we have been spent. Let us “fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (12:13) The sooner we do this, the better!
