Proverbs 22:28 Do not move the ancient landmark that your fathers have set.
Ancient landmarks are works of our forefathers. They are not just monuments to remind us of the past but are also boundaries and protection for the generations to come. This is especially true for ancient landmarks related to our spiritual lives. When ancient landmarks disappear, the generations to come lose their way and follow the wrong path. We see this played out in the book of Judges: “And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.” (Judges 2:10) We have been experiencing the removal of ancient landmarks in America for a while now. For example, currently it is not easy to find books about Martin Luther the Reformer in the public libraries. Proof of America’s Christian heritage is increasingly being removed from our history books and is being replaced with secular ideas. Let us guard the ancient landmarks of God so “that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children” (Psalm 78:6)
