God’s Master Workman

Proverbs 8:22 “The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old. … 30  then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always,31 rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.

Having wisdom as referred to in Proverbs does not simply mean having an intelligent mind but wisdom here is a Person, One who was with God in the beginning, who “was beside [the Lord], like a master workman.” In 1 Corinthians 1:24, Christ is spoken of as “the power of God and the wisdom of God.” Therefore evolution is a direct attack on, and an insult to, the wisdom of God, Christ. It is because Christ is God’s master workman that we are able to learn and to study all subjects: math, science, biology, astronomy, geometry, etc. No wonder  when we leave God out of our learning that we become fools. In contrast, when we see Christ in all things, we become wiser and “increase in learning” (9:9) and our learning is full of delight and “rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.” Christ not only is our Savior; He is also the wisdom foundational to our learning. Let us be reminded by Abraham Kuyper’s words: “In the total expanse of human life there is not a single square inch of which the Christ, who alone is sovereign, does not declare,’That is mine!’”
