Psalm 146:1 Praise the Lord!Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live I will sing praises to my God while I have my being…The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!

The last five psalms are the “Halleluiah Psalms” that focus our attention on praising the Lord. The word “Hallelujah” means “praise the Lord”. Psalm 146 begins with a vow and a declaration that “as long as [we] live, [we] will sing praises to God”. Especially when the world is chaos, praising God makes our hearts ascend to heaven. We will see that God is still sitting on the throne so we won’t trust in the kings of the earth but in the God of Jacob. Praising God also helps us to see that God is still taking action today (vv. 6-9)! God is the God who creates, who maintains, who acts, and who gives … most importantly, God will reign forever (v. 10). Therefore, let us make our lives a life of Hallelujah now (that is, a life of praise), because we will join all nations to sing Hallelujah forever in the new heavens and the new earth!
