Psalm 73:16 But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, 17 until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end.18 Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin.

詩篇 73:16 我思索要明白這事,眼看實係為難,17 直到我進了 神的聖所,思想他們的結局。18 你實在把他們安放在滑地,使他們跌倒滅亡;

In many dramas, we find the wicked prospering and the “good guy” suffering.  Only in the final episode are we given the satisfaction to see the wicked defeated and justice finally served. Real life seems like a drama, too. We long for justice in the world, but too often we just “[see] the prosperity of the wicked” (v. 3) and we think “in vain have I kept my heart clean.” (v. 13) How can we avoid the temptation to do the same as the wicked or to implement justice in our own way? The answer is to enter “into the sanctuary of God”; we will then “[understand] their final destiny (NIV)”. Only when we draw near to God (v. 28) will we see the end of the wicked (vv. 18-19), and only then will we find new strength to remain pure in heart. At that point we will truly be able to say “Whom have I in heaven but you? and there is nothing on earth that I desire beside you.” (v. 25) Every day before starting out on our daily routine, let us enter “into the sanctuary of God”,  let God “hold our right hand”, and let His counsel guide us (vv. 23-24)! God is the real supreme Judge who will have final verdict so let us be patient and be faithful until the last episode!
