Psalm 57:1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. 2. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
David was hiding in the cave of Adullam with 400 distressful men while King Saul was pursuing his life. What could be worse than this? It is true: when a storm comes, we should not go out to fight with the storm but wait and hide “in the shadow of [God’s] wings” until it passes. But David did not just hide in the cave; as he hid, he cried out to God that God would fulfill His purposes for him. Everything happens for a purpose. As we hide in the “cave” of our homes and wait for God to deliver us from COVID-19, let us remember that God has a purpose for us. As we wait, God is also waiting for us: “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” (Hebrews 10:36) Has our faith become stronger or weaker through this time? Have our families become stronger or weaker? May we all find and fulfill God’s purposes for us during this pandemic!
