God’s Wordless Book

Psalm

1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.

God created the heavens and the earth by His Word (Gen.1:3) and He continues to speak day by day. Creation is the general revelation of God to all men, telling us there is a God who has created the world. The universe did not come about by propitious accidents of evolution. Romans 1:20 says that God’s existence “has been clearly perceived and … so that [men] are without excuse.” Creation is therefore God’s wordless book to prove God exists but we still need God’s special revelation, His Word, to tell us about God. The Bible, God’s Word, points to and is fulfilled by Jesus Christ. The fool says in his heart: “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1). When Paul spoke at Athens he proclaimed the preeminence of “the God who made the world and everything in it.” (Acts 17:24). It is time for Christians to speak out loud to the world and especially to the next generation about God’s wordless book. Having been taught that “there is no God”, people then believe that there is no need to read the Word of God and that there is no need for the Incarnate Word of God, Jesus. But “[t]he God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth.”
