Job 42:1 Then Job answered the Lord and said:“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

God did not give Job the reason for his suffering. Instead, Job was simply brought to his knees as he considered God’s amazing and wonderful creation. Just as we read in Psalm 8:3-4, “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” Job finally uttered his profound words: “I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you.”

When we humble ourselves, we will see God in the midst of our suffering. We will recognize that in comparison to the Almighty God we are but “worms” (25:6). God is in full control of all things and no one can hinder God’s purposes. At the current time, we are in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, but we do not need to be afraid or to panic! Let Job be our example and inspiration: “Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.” (James 5:11) Learning from Job’s experience, we don’t need to wait until AFTER the storm is over to see God. May we see God IN the storm and allow God’s purposes to be fulfilled in our lives at this very time!

May Casting Crowns – Praise You in This Storm carry us through this storm.
